!! Before your register !!

As of today (Thursday October 9th), we have closed the on-line registration! All those who would like to participate in the Gathering, but are not yet registered, can do so directly at the registration table at UQAM!

The Gathering will take place at
Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)
405, Sainte-Catherine street East
(514) 987-3000

Who is the Gathering for?

The Waves of Resistance Pan-Canadian Young Feminist Gathering is a non-mixed event for young women between the ages of 14 and 35. Hence, women over the age of 35 may not participate or register for the Gathering. They may only accompany a young woman who is under-aged or has a disability. However, women 35 or older, accompanying someone or not, are invited to lend a hand for different logistical aspects of the event (distribution of meals, welcoming kiosk, etc.). We wish to give as much space as possible for young women between the ages of 14 and 35 to express themselves. Thank you very much for your understanding!

It is mandatory for participants under the age of 18 who register for the Gathering to fill-out the Release form and the Health form for minors, available at the end of the registration form. They are also required to be accompanied by a woman over the age of 18. The forms must be filled out and signed by the participant and her parent/person in charge, and sent by fax to 514-876-0162 or scanned and then emailed to mobilisation@rebelles2008.org.

Participants who are mothers/legal guardians and wish to use the daycare services during the event must fill-out and sign the Health form for children, available at the end of the Registration form. They should fax it to us at 514-876-0162 or scan and email it to mobilisation@rebelles2008.org.

The Gathering will be held in both official languages, English and French, and simultaneous interpretation will be provided through out the event.

Transportation

The Organizing committee encourages all young women wishing to attend the Gathering to seek funding themselves, with the help of their provincial mobilizers or utilizing the tips and tricks presented in the fundraising kit offered by the Organizing committee and available in section Finance your transport. For further information on provincial mobilizers, contact us at mobilisation@rebelles2008.org.

The Organizing Committee has very limited funds available for travel expenses for a few participants. If you wish to apply to the Participants’ travel fund, you must fill out the Participants’ travel fund form. This form can be filled-out directly on your computer and sent by email to mobilisation@rebelles2008.org or it can be printed, filled out by hand and sent by fax to 514-876-0162 or scanned and sent to the same email address. You can refer to the Finance your travel section for information on the Organizing Committee’s selection criteria.

INTER-CITY BUS: The main bus terminal in Montreal is a few hundred metres from UQÀM, where the Gathering will take place. Please see the Travel section to find out how to get there.

If you have questions or you want to make particular arrangements, feel free to contact us at mobilisation@rebelles2008.org. Thank you!

Accommodations

The Organizing Committee is trying to make it possible for everyone to have free housing. We have reserved a large gym that can accommodate a large number of women. In this case, you will need to bring your own sleeping bag and floor mat. On the registration form, please check the section that matches your needs. If you have specific needs that prevent you from staying in a large gym, get in touch with us at mobilisation@rebelles2008.org.

See the Travel section for directions on how to get to the venue of the Gathering and to the gym, at Cégep Maisonneuve.

The women in charge of organized groups travelling together and who wish to be housed together should get in touch with the Organizing Committee.

We will not be making hotel reservations for participants. Each participant who chooses not to use the housing options offered by the Organizing Committee is responsible of making her own arrangements. A list of the most inexpensive hostels in Montreal is available in the Accommodations section.

Food

The Organizing Committee will provide breakfast and lunch. These will be vegetarian meals, organized and served by different Québec activist organizations. A voluntary contribution will be suggested to encourage these groups to continue in their struggle for equal access to food for all.

Registration fees

The Organizing Committee wishes the registration fee not be an obstacle to young women’s participation. The registration fees for young women over the age of 18 are $1 per $1000 of gross annual income. The model for the calculation along with an example can be found with the Registration form. This way of establishing the registration fee allows for wealth distribution and seeks to be fair for all. The registration fee for young women under the age of 18 is $5. Finally, all young women for whom it is impossible to pay the amount asked can make a voluntary contribution for the amount of their choice or can simply not pay any registration fee.

We suggest that all young women in a comfortable financial situation contribute voluntarily to the Participants’ travel fund. This fund will allow us to help with travel expenses for young women in difficult financial situations so they are able to participate in the Gathering.

Give generously!
