www.rebelles.org - A New Pan-Canadian Mobilisation Platform for Young Feminists

Welcome to the new pan-Canadian mobilisation platform for young feminists: Waves of Resistance 2.0!

This website was first made for the organisation and mobilisation of the Gathering in Montreal that brought together 500 young feminists from across Canada in October 2008. We have transformed the website into an interactive space for reflection and discussion that will quickly spring to life thanks to its various interactive applications. We have a new blog for sharing information and getting feedback on our ideas, a complete forum (please sign up!) for heated discussion, calls to action, invitations or sharing multimedia (articles, photos, videos, and so forth), a wealth of downloadable feminist resources (popular education, articles, facilitation resources, editorials, etc.) and of course, all the necessary information about the *Pan-Canadian Decentralised Day of Action of Young Feminists on March 8!*

This web site will be an important tool in the construction of our new
pan-Canadian movement of young feminists!!! Waves of Resistance 2.0 is
ours! Let's make some waves. Gangway!

Waves of Resistance Spin-Offs

RebELLEs needed to take ACTION!!!

Already three months have passed since the first Pan-Canadian Young Feminist Gathering where 511 young women and feminists 14-35 came together from all regions of Canada to mobilize, network, energize and deepen the roots of the young feminist movement across Canada. We should be proud of our collective success and to have made history in the feminist movement in Canada and in Québec.

In the present context of rising anti-feminism and Right-winged ideology in the economic, moral, political and religious spheres, we should be proud that we have made our mark on the political and social landscape: that we stated out loud that feminism is alive and well among the younger generation and that our struggles are far from over. Today, we are renewing our contact with you, young feminists, to continue to organize our struggle and face the challenge of *TAKING ACTION*!

On this web site, you will find information about the following Waves of Resistance spin-offs:

1)Information and call to organising decentralised Pan-Canadian young feminist actions on March 8 2009 in your area!
2)Information on the Pan-Canadian Evaluation Meeting of the Gathering
3)The DVD of the Gathering
4)The distribution and use of the RebELLEs Manifesto
5)Workshops on the rise of the Right...in progress
6)Provincial and regional mobilisation...what is happening in your area?
7)2010: the G8, the Olympics and the World March of Women

The 1st Young Feminist Pan-Canadian Day of Decentralized Actions - A REVIEW OF SOME OF OUR ACTIONS FOR IWD 2009

DOWN WITH COLONIALISM
RebELLEs AGAINST CAPITALISM
RISE UP AGAINST PATRIARCHY

Dear RebELLEs,

The First Young Feminist Pan-Canadian Day of Decentralized Action, a victory for young feminists, showcases the strength of our convictions and our movement and presents great hope for the future! Over 20 events across the country were held around March 8th. More than 500 of us attended the gathering. Even more were mobilized in our areas on International Women’s Day to take action, to make or voices heard, to make our manifesto known and to destabilize the established patriarchal order. Young feminists: our hour has come!!!

For example, an artistic guerrilla instillation took place in Kamloops, British-Colombia in order to widely broadcast the manifesto, culminating in the protest on March 8th. Halifax RebELLEs held a rally for women’s rights, highlighting women’s struggle and distributing copies of the young feminists’ manifesto. Young feminists in London, Ontario organised a burlesque parade to denounce injustices toward women caused by Neo-liberalism. In Winnipeg, there was a protest on the theme “If only I had a hammer!”. In Halifax, young feminists, in partnership with various provincial feminist groups, gathered to publicize the manifesto in a day of speeches and protests. In Chicoutimi, Quebec, the young feminists "Toujours Rebelles" organized a march with the slogan “La clé de la maternité : ma liberté de choisir” (The key to maternity : my right to choose). The goal of the march was to promote the creation of a birthing house in the region and to support the practice of midwifery.

Manifesto of the Pan-Canadian Young Feminist Gathering

Click here to download the Manifesto!

The 'Manifesto of the Pan-Canadian Young Feminist Gathering' is our political tool. For us, it is an instrument of identification as well as mobilisation and raising consciousness. The Manifesto describes us as young feminists as well as what we are fighting against, what we are struggling for, the world and communities we dream of building together and the gestures we will make to get there.

We hope that the Manifesto will be used across Canada, in our feminist networks, as well as in grassroots organisations and national unions: at feminist actions or to educate our friends, colleagues, mothers, brothers, etc. about feminism.

While united at the Waves of Resistance Gathering, the participants collectively and democratically adopted the Pan-Canadian Gathering of Young Feminists Manifesto, developed from the proposal submitted by the Protest Committee made up of 14 young feminists from each of the Canadian provinces and territories and one First Nations woman!

The manifesto is a battle cry, a stronghold against apathy, a call to action and to unity for all the diversity in our "RebELLEs"!
