Selection criteria
The deadline to apply to the Participants' Travel Fund is on September 22.
A selection committee, that is independent from the Organizing Committee, will choose the young women eligible for the Participants’ Travel Fund. The selection criteria, which the Organizing Committee decided on, are as follows:
• Effort to find funding
Did the applicant do what was necessary to look for funding to cover her travel expenses? Did she contact the Organizing Committee to find out how to self-finance? Did she contact her provincial mobilizer? Did she call on groups or organizations in her region to ask for help and financial support?
Priority will be given to young women having fewer opportunities to find funding other than through the Organizing Committee, as opposed to those who are more likely to obtain funding elsewhere (from other organizations for example).
• Geographical location
The Organizing Committee wants to make possible participation by many young women from rural and faraway areas. These groups are often underrepresented in the women’s movement’s events due to high travel costs. Another one of our priorities is for all provinces and territories to be represented.
• Diversity and inclusion
Applications by young women from sectors traditionally marginalized by and within the women’s movement will be given priority. We want to facilitate participation by young women facing specific forms of oppression and who are often not present in women’s groups. The views of young women living in precarious conditions, who are unemployed or on welfare, young Native women, young women from different cultural communities, young lesbians, bisexual and queer young women, young women with disabilities or limited abilities are not heard often enough at events nor included enough in women’s platforms*. It is very important to the Organizing Committee to avoid reproducing this pattern and to hold a gathering that is truly diverse and inclusive of all women making up the feminist movement.
